Cause marketing is defined as a corporate/nonprofit partnership that aligns the power of a company's brand, marketing and people with a nonprofit's cause, brand and assets. Companies spend well over $1.4 billion annually on cause marketing, and it provides over $4 billion of support for charitable causes.  This seminar will show you how to take advantage of this growing form of corporate support, and turn your nonprofit into a synonym for a particular  cause.

This session is intended as a follow-on to the corporate sponsorship seminar, and will cover the following topics:
  • Cause marketing 101: understand the differences between corporate sponsorship and cause related marketing
  • Packaging your assets: analyze what you have and what you need to make your organization attractive to corporate partners
  • Researching potential partners: establish a strategic fit between your organization's mission and the mission of your corporate partner
  • Managing the partnership: know the core elements of a cause marketing management plan
  • Evaluating the partnership: set outcomes so that you and your corporate partner both benefit from the arrangement
Seminar attendees will come away with focused and creative strategies to capture a corporation's imagination while ensuring that their own organizations get much needed corporate support.

Speakers for this session:

Mark Horoszowski
Long time volunteer and nonprofit founder
American Cancer Society and HelpingHelp.org

Currently, Mark serves on the American Cancer Society's National Leadership Training Team and National Relay for Life Advisory Team. As a member of these teams, Mark helps build many profitable relationships with corporate partners to maintain the American Cancer Society's fundraising development. Professionally, Mark is a partner at Cymbal Interactive, where he is responsible for marketing, corporate relationships, communication, fundraising and training objectives. Mark graduated from the University of Washington with a Masters in Accounting and an undergraduate degree in business.

Joyce McClure
Executive Director
Bridges to Understanding

Joyce has been involved in marketing communications and public relations for more than 35 years, working for major corporations and advertising for public relations agencies in New York City, Boston, Los Angeles and Seattle. In her current position, she is responsible for building relationships with corporate partners, strategic planning, development, marketing, and organizational management. Previously, as Senior Vice President at Waggener Edstrom Worldwide, she was responsible for operations management as COO of the Microsoft account. She has often used cause-related tie-ins to gain awareness for her clients and understands what both sides, the corporation and the nonprofit, need for a successful partnership. Joyce earned a BFA in Liberal Arts from Stephens College. As a volunteer, she led Bridges' media outreach during Seeds of Compassion in April 2008 and then led Bridges' staff and board in a strategic planning process prior to her appointment as Executive Director in January 2009. She has also served on the board of trustees of Stephens College and provided consulting services to numerous nonprofits.

Gail Romero

MacKenzie-romero Consulting

Gail has been involved in development, fundraising, communications and business for the past 30 years. As President she is responsible for managing a team of executives and building corporate relationships to advance philanthropic outcomes for many nonprofits. Prior to her work at MacKenzie-Romero Consulting she had a successful career in Sales and Marketing with both national and international entities where she was responsible for creating many profitable relationships with corporate partners. Gail currently serves as the Vice-Chair of Albers School of Business and Economics - International Program at Seattle University and serves on the Advisory Council for iLEAP Fellows, Board of Directors for Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute, Board of Directors for Rainmakers, and judges for the UW Global Social Entrepreneurial Competition. She graduated from Northpark University's Graduate School of Business in Nonprofit Management and University of Wisconsin's Madison Institute - AHP program. Memberships include, MCAI, Media Professionals Worldwide, WBO, AFP where she is a Master Instructor and has attained her CFRE. Gail has garnered noteworthy attention for her published books, articles, interviews, and video productions seen on BBC World News, PBS and international events.
