Cause marketing is defined as a corporate/nonprofit partnership that aligns the power of a company's brand, marketing and people with a nonprofit's cause, brand and assets. Companies spend well over $1.4 billion annually on cause marketing, and it provides over $4 billion of support for charitable causes.  This seminar will show you how to take advantage of this growing form of corporate support, and turn your nonprofit into a synonym for a particular  cause.

This session is intended as a follow-on to the corporate sponsorship seminar, and will cover the following topics:
  • Cause marketing 101: understand the differences between corporate sponsorship and cause related marketing
  • Packaging your assets: analyze what you have and what you need to make your organization attractive to corporate partners
  • Researching potential partners: establish a strategic fit between your organization's mission and the mission of your corporate partner
  • Managing the partnership: know the core elements of a cause marketing management plan
  • Evaluating the partnership: set outcomes so that you and your corporate partner both benefit from the arrangement
Seminar attendees will come away with focused and creative strategies to capture a corporation's imagination while ensuring that their own organizations get much needed corporate support.

Speakers for this session:

Leo Muller
Executive Director
CHOICES Education Group

Leo Muller has more than 22 years of non-profit social enterprise leadership experience successfully developing and executing cause-marketing relationships, business-education partnerships and volunteerism programs with Fortune 500 companies, chambers of commerce, service clubs and school systems. As the Executive Director of CHOICES Education Group the past 11 years, Leo has also fulfilled fundraising responsibilities for CHOICES, with a primary focus on corporate grants. Leo is a member of the Nordstrom Diversity Scholarship Selection Committee and a judge for the Seattle Pacific University Social Venture Plan Competition. He has served on the Board of the Washington Association of Partners in Education, the National Alliance of Business Task Force on Teacher Quality, the Washington State Partnership for Family Involvement in Education, and the Alliance for Education School-To-Work Community Planning Group. Leo holds a Business degree from Seattle Pacific University.

Paul Tobin
Director of Corporate Development
American Diabetes Association

Paul Tobin has over 15 years of non-profit management experience and has developed partnerships between locally and nationally recognized companies and causes. Paul has successfully negotiated sponsorships and marketing alliances with Fortune 500 companies in the U.S. and Canada on behalf of leading organizations in the performing arts, higher education, health and human services fields. Paul currently directs sponsorship programs and corporate alliances for the American Diabetes Association including the ADA’s I Decide to Fight Diabetes Campaign, which aims to engage consumers in the fight against the nation’s fastest growing chronic disease. A Seattle native, Paul is an active volunteer with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program of Snohomish County and enjoys tennis, hiking, playing drums and spending time outdoors with his family. Paul is a graduate of Seattle Preparatory High School and the University of San Diego.
