Over the next decade, trillions of dollars will be donated to nonprofit organizations through planned gifts. These are most often unrestricted bequests of many thousands of dollars and they can make or break fundraising campaigns. You need to make sure you understand the motivations and challenges for donors and their advisors, know how to set realistic goals, and plan how you will attract and close these gifts.

Topics we will cover include:
  • Planned giving vehicles and how they work
  • Special stewardship plans for top-level donors
  • Customizing a planned giving program for your organization
  •  Keeping your donors involved and committed after the gift has been made

After the program, you'll have a better understanding of (i) planned giving principles and practices, and (ii) how to implement a successful planned giving program.  This session is designed for intermediate to advanced fundraisers.

Jim Eckel
Director of Planned Giving
USS Midway Museum

As Director of Planned Giving with the USS Midway Museum, Jim consults with affinity minded volunteers and members of the public who wish to make a charitable contribution to the Museum while making sure these gifts work best for the donor and the Museum. Jim has authored several books: Planning for the Golden Years with Variable Annuities, Financial Planning with Variable Annuities, Survey of Advanced Sales, and Conserve Your Wealth in Seven Easy Steps: A Practical Guide for Seniors. Jim earned his Business Administration degree from CSUH in Hayward, CA. His designations include, CFP, CLU and JD. He is a past member of the National Speakers Association and has given numerous seminars on charitable and financial planning. Jim has also taught business and investment courses at Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo, CA.

Daniel Hoebeke
Planned giving Officer
Jewish Home for the Aged, San Francisco

Daniel G. Hoebeke, J.D. is the Planned Giving Officer of the Jewish Home for the Aged in San Francisco, California. He received his undergraduate degree from Calvin College in 1972 and his J.D. from Valparaiso School of Law in 1975. During the last 25 years, Daniel has conducted more than 750 seminars in 44 states to charitable boards, donors and planning professionals. His professional seminars on charitable giving, tax and estate planning (renowned for mixing technical information with frequent dashes of humor) have been approved for CLE, CPE and CEU credits. Most recently, Daniel was the keynote speaker at the Arizona Planned Giving Roundtable Summer Forum. Daniel has also written extensively on planned giving topics and his individual conferences with thousands of donors have resulted in over $250 million in charitable gifts.

Art Stine

The Salvation Army

Art Stine is a graduate of UCLA, and has spent 16 years as a Giftplanner and has received his Certified Planned Giving Specialist Certificate from CSU Long Beach. He spends about 80% of his time in the field, stewarding donors, educating Corps Officers and staff, and cultivating Advisory Board members on the value of completing Planned Gifts that benefits the charities that they support. The balance of Art’s time is spent keeping current with tax and estate tax laws to better educate donors. Art is a member in good standing with the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning, and has presented to the Northern California Planned Giving Councils Annual Conference and has served on the Basics Course Faculty (Marketing Planned Gifts).
