Ken has been involved in fundraising for 25 years. In his current position, he is responsible for oversight of all fundraising activities, and developing a three-dimensional rating system that assesses charities on their finances, accountability and results. Previously, as co-COO at Jawonio, Ken was responsible for oversight of all fundraising activities and program level financial management. Before that, he worked as CEO at The Floating Hospital where he was responsible for financial management for the organization. He earned Masters in Business Administration from Rutgers University and a Masters in Psychology from Antioch University. He is a member of Alliance for Effective Social Investing and an Advisory Board Member of The Institute for Ethical Leadership (Rutgers University).
Ernest has been involved in finance for 25 years. In his current position as COO/CFO for the Vera Institute of Justice, he is responsible for providing practical, hands-on management to the organization. Over the last 15 years, his focus has been on helping not-for-profit organizations with issues of governance, fiscal infrastructure and human resources. His experience encompasses internal control reviews, risk assessments, and organizational development. As CFO at Wildcat Service Corporation, Ernest was responsible for the company’s financial functions. He served as the organization’s primary point of contact for annual financial audit and other audits. He prepared accurate monthly financial statements, cash forecasts, and kept short-term money invested. Ernest reviewed financial statements, budgets and related reports to assure accuracy and completeness. Before that, he worked as Director of Finance & Operations at First Center for the Visual Arts where he was responsible for the administrative and financial operations for organization, prepared cash forecasts and kept short-term money invested. Ernest currently serves as Treasurer for Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem. He earned a DBA in Management from University of Phoenix and an MBA in Strategy from George Washington University. He is a member of NYS Society of CPAs.
Tara Mia has been involved in financial management for 25 years. As the CFO at The Fund, Tara leads all financial management activities and provides counsel and advice on such to the CEO, other team members and the Board. Tara oversees and implements financial policies and plans for The Fund and provides overall management and direction for the accounting, budgeting, treasury, banking, grant review, and tax reporting functions. Additionally, she is responsible for understanding and following standards for best practices for nonprofit organizations and that The Fund meets these standards and ensuring that all IRS regulations governing non-profits and other laws, rules and regulations are being followed. Previously, as COO at StoryCorps, Tara had management oversight of organizational administrative and financial matters including: budget management and development, marketing and communications, human resources, procurement and information technology. Before that, she worked as Managing Director at Lower Manhattan Cultural Council where Tara had management oversight of organizational operations and financial matters. She served as the staff liaison to Finance and Strategic Planning Committees. Tara earned a BA in International Relations from Mount Holyoke College and a MPA in Urban Public Policy from Wagner School of Public Service.
Isaac has been involved in financial management for over 20 years. In his current position, he consults nonprofit organizations on sales, accounting and fiscal oversight. He also serves as a volunteer trustee for the S.A.M. Parent Assembly, where he maintains and directs their investments. He chairs and participates in all finance, fundraising and budget committees where he reviews annual budget processes, forms task forces, and implements comprehensive accounting processes. For over 10 years, Isaac was the point of contact and banking relationship manager at major money center institutions such as GE Capital, Chase, Bank of New York and Banco Santander. In these positions, he handled loan portfolios for both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. He initiated, structured and implemented specialized lending programs, analyzed viability of real estate construction projects for permanent financing, provided technical assistance to clients and designed and maintained management information systems. Isaac earned a BA in Liberal Arts from Stonybrook University. He is a member of the Nonprofit Action Network, INROADS, NYC Inc., ABILITIES, Inc., Latino JSEC, and the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA).
