One of the best ways to educate the public about your charity or not-for-profit organisation, to recruit volunteers and talk to donors face-to-face is to hold a special event. This event could be related to the purpose of your organisation, or simply be something like an exhibition or concert.
 
This session will cover:
  • Is a special event right for your organisation? A look at the pros and cons of planning award receptions, sports tournaments, auctions and other fundraising events
  • How much money should your event make? Revenue considerations for a charity event
  • Should you underwrite the event? Understanding the strings attached to corporate sponsorship
  • How should you market your event? Positioning yourself for your target market
Attendees will walk out with real insight into how to judge whether a special event is feasible, and how to make it a roaring success. This session is intended for intermediate to advanced fundraisers.

Since 2000, Sue has been involved with a grass roots registered charity, Camp Cando Organisation, which takes London teenagers with special needs on holiday annually. As Chairman for the past three years, she has been responsible for activities returning over £10k, achieved through collaborations with external partners on special events (including corporate sponsorships). Communication, direction and management of relationships with event partners have been key to her organization`s ongoing success. This year was her second year as Camp Director.
