Over the next decade, trillions of dollars will be donated to nonprofit organizations through planned gifts. These are most often unrestricted bequests of many thousands of dollars and they can make or break fundraising campaigns. You need to make sure you understand the motivations and challenges for donors and their advisors, know how to set realistic goals, and plan how you will attract and close these gifts.

Topics we will cover include:
  • Planned giving vehicles and how they work
  • Special stewardship plans for top-level donors
  • Customizing a planned giving program for your organization
  •  Keeping your donors involved and committed after the gift has been made

After the program, you'll have a better understanding of (i) planned giving principles and practices, and (ii) how to implement a successful planned giving program.  This session is designed for intermediate to advanced fundraisers.

Rick Kress is one of 81 ACFREs in the world (Advanced Certified Fund Raising Executive). He was the VP of Development at Providence Hospital, Beaumont Hospital, and Lutheran Social Services of Michigan. He has consulted in planned gifts, major gifts, capital campaigns, strategic planning, audits, feasibility studies, Board development, prospect management, and writing. Mr. Kress has been a speaker at AFP and AHP International Conferences and many local fundraising conferences in the midwest. He was the AHP Detroit Chapter president in 2000. He has consulted for health, human services, and religious organizations.

Scott Schropp has worked in the financial services industry since 1984. He is a partner with the Iles Group at Merrill Lynch. A graduate of Ferris State University and Northwestern University ABA National Trust School, Scott also attended the Executive Education program at the Wharton School of Business. He is a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor, A Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy and a Certified Investment Management Analyst. Scott is a Philanthropic Advisor with the Council on Foundations and an active member of the Council of Michigan Foundations, Michigan Nonprofit Association, National Planned Giving Council and the Northeast Michigan Estate Planning Council.
