It is now recognized that all nonprofits go through several stages of development: founding, growing, maturing and reinventing. An organization that is not evolving and is stuck in one of the stages of development is normally doomed to failure. Therefore, knowing what stage your organization is in and taking steps to move it to the next phase is crucial to keeping it on the road to success. This session will explore the following topics:
- Organizational life cycles, and why organizations need to change in order to survive - Assessing what phase of the life cycle your organization is in, and what steps are needed to advance it to the next phase - Warning signals that your organization is in need of change, and how to address these signals - Managing power struggles and turf battles that inevitably result when an organization is in transition - Ensuring that staff and other stakeholders support the transition fully - How to measure whether the transition has been effective and if any further changes are needed You will learn how to use various tools including organizational assessments, conflict resolution policies, implementation plans, and leadership plans to guide your organization through the transition. This session is intended for Board Members, Executives, Senior Staff and HR Managers.
