One of the best ways to educate the public about your nonprofit, recruit volunteers and solicit donors face-to-face is to hold a special event. This event could be related to the mission of your organization, or just an event like a blood drive, art showing or a concert that you organize.
Topics we will cover include:
  •  Is a special event right for your organization? A look at the pros and cons of planning award receptions, sports tournaments, auctions, and other fund-raising events
  •  How much money should your event make? Revenue considerations for a nonprofit event
  •  Should you underwrite the event? Understanding the strings attached to corporate sponsorship
  •  How should you market your event? Segmenting and positioning yourself for your target market
Attendees will walk out with key insights on whether a special event is feasible, and how to make it a roaring success.  This session is intended for intermediate to advanced fundraisers.

Tracy Alexis

St. Martin`s Hospitality Center

Tracy Alexis is Development Director for St. Martin`s Hospitality Center - a non-profit serving New Mexico`s homeless and disenfranchised. Tracy has over twenty-five years of fundraising experience in various campaigns for Fortune 500 companies, privately held businesses and non-profits. She has a stellar track record of creating win/win events such as brunches, silent auctions, golf tournaments and business fairs. Tracy has served both as a volunteer fundraiser and as a paid fundraising professional. She is a member of the local chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals and holds a Psychology degree from the University of New Mexico. She returns to school in 2009 to complete her Ph.D. in Organizational and Industrial Psychology.

He is the C.E.O. of DiNardo & Lord Auctioneers - a renowned fundraising auction consulting firm. Mr. DiNardo has over 20 years of experience in development, fundraising, event planning, proposal writing and major gift solicitation. He has created many of the most prestigious and profitable charity auctions, Fund-A-Need programs, wine events and annual giving campaigns in the country. Tom holds a B.A., possesses many professional licenses, and he is a member of the AFP, Intl. Society of Appraisers, Society of Wine Educators and the Intl. Sommelier Guild. Tom DiNardo has appeared on The Learning Channel (TLC), and he is a freelance writer and contributor to many fundraising articles.
