One of the best ways to educate the public about your nonprofit, recruit volunteers and solicit donors face-to-face is to hold a special event. This event could be related to the mission of your organization, or just an event like a blood drive, art showing or a concert that you organize.
Topics we will cover include:
  •  Is a special event right for your organization? A look at the pros and cons of planning award receptions, sports tournaments, auctions, and other fund-raising events
  •  How much money should your event make? Revenue considerations for a nonprofit event
  •  Should you underwrite the event? Understanding the strings attached to corporate sponsorship
  •  How should you market your event? Segmenting and positioning yourself for your target market
Attendees will walk out with key insights on whether a special event is feasible, and how to make it a roaring success.  This session is intended for intermediate to advanced fundraisers.

John Keuffer, III

Teen Response, Inc.

John has been running special events since 1992. He has written two books: DARE TO FAIL and MONEY MATTERS, and has spent the last 15 years serving as a non-profit consultant for Athlete Charities in the NFL, MLB, NBA, and the WWE. He is known as the Pitbull of Non-Profits(tm), and has raised over several million dollars in special events. From golf tournaments to Sporting Clays tournaments, from dinners to Celebrity Wrestling shows, John has run events for as little as 50 people to events for over 1000. John`s events have been televised in the New England market and abroad. He has served on numerous board, community councils, and has won over 60 local, state and national awards for excellence in service.

Dr. Terry Whitt Bailey

Terry has over 15 years experience in special events fundraising. In her current position, she is responsible for day-to-day operations, grants, fundraising, and special events at her company. Terry currently works with organizations to assist with conference planning, advocacy, marketing, collaborative alliance building, and volunteer recruitment. Terry has chaired many non-profit boards including American Heart Association, Family Services, and Indiana Coalition for the Arts, and focuses her talents on special events and fundraising. She is a member of Academy of Community Leadership; Harrison College Advisory Board; Indiana Coalition for the Arts (President); and Women in Business Unlimited. Terry was inducted into the Rutgers University African American Alumni Hall of Fame; awarded the Indiana Community Arts Leadership Award, received the 2008 Indiana Women of Achievement Award, and the 2009 Athena Award. She received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University, her masters from UCLA, and her Doctorate from Newburgh Theological Seminary. Terry is also a graduate Harvard University's Management Development Program.
