Annual giving campaigns

Ask any fundraiser and they'll tell you that the annual fund is the foundation for all other fundraising efforts. By developing a successful, ongoing annual program, you'll be able to raise funds to operate your nonprofit, while building a pool of donors from which to draw potential major, planned, and capital gift donors. Get practical advice on progressive approaches to annual giving programs with this specialized session.

- Attracting new donors to your annual campaign
- Establishing recurring gifts and loyalty programs to acknowledge frequent donors
- Utilizing special events to raise annual funds
- Maximizing traditional forms of solicitation such as appeal letters and phonathons
- Using the web to jump start your annual giving program

Attendees of all skill levels will find interesting approaches to annual giving campaigns in this session

Attendees will walk out with new approaches to (i) better understand donors, (ii) segment donors, (iii) communicate to donors, and (iv) match available funding needs to donor interests.
Speakers for this session:

Christopher Norman, CFRE
Director, The Wittenberg Fund
Wittenberg University

Chris Norman has more than two decades of annual fund experience in politics, arts, health care, k-12 and higher education. In his current role as Director of the Wittenberg fund he oversees the annual fund which includes direct mail, online giving, phonathon and athletics fundraising. Chris is part of the team which conceived and executed the CASE Gold Award winning Witt Nation alumni engagement effort featured in the Chronicle of Higher Education. He authored and orchestrated the segmented messaging for the "Ministry of Talent" annual campaign for Wittenberg-yielding the highest response rate in the university`s history. Those efforts have helped Wittenberg Fund raise in excess of $6M in the past two years- the best in Wittenberg`s 164 year history!

Robert Swaney
Founder
Robert Swaney Consulting, Inc.

For over twenty years, Bob Swaney has established himself as a leader in achieving superior Annual Fund revenue results for arts organizations. After serving as a staff member in progressive fundraising positions with various major symphony orchestras, Mr. Swaney retired from arts management in 2006 to launch his own consulting firm. For the Civic Orchestra of Chicago (the Chicago Symphony`s training orchestra), Bob launched an annual fundraising startup program that grew to nearly $800,000 in two years. In St. Louis, Bob doubled the Annual Fund of the St. Louis Symphony from $4.6M to $7.2M in five years. And while in Indianapolis, Bob had three consecutive record-breaking years in the annual fund of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Bob’s innovative work has been featured in “The Chronicle of Philanthropy,” and he frequently speaks at regional and national conferences.
