Online fundraising: harnessing technology to build and maintain relationships

With the potential of technology to reach a much larger audience quickly and inexpensively, more and more organizations are using an online presence to reach donors, members, volunteers and supporters.  An online presence consists of much more than a "Donate Now" button on your website.  You can now use technology to run special events, promote a planned giving program, recruit and retain volunteers, manage donor data, and much more.  In addition, the internet offers a valuable way to market your nonprofit if you know how to use your website effectively.

This session will explore the following topics:
  • Promoting your organization online: use email campaigns and E-newsletters to reach new and existing supporters of your organization
  • Electronic prospect research: use the internet to uncover rich data sources and build profiles of top prospects
  • Online donor recruitment: use website appeals to create donor interest
  • Online donor renewal: use online renewals to lower costs and increase response rates
  • Volunteer mobilization: use the web to build strong relationships with your volunteers
  • Donor management systems: use donor management systems to keep in touch with, and reach out to, record numbers of donors
  • Online event management: use software to plan, market, and coordinate your events
Attendees will walk away wondering why they have not made greater use of technology until now.

Speakers for this session:

Michael Loban
Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)
InfoTrust, LLC

In his current capacity as CMO of a social media marketing agency Michael works with nonprofit organizations to establish their online brand presence, effectively choose marketing channels to reach their target market, and build viral user communities. He also helps organizations use new media in their online marketing efforts, fundraising initiatives, community building and social engagement. Michael often lectures on the topics of social media, brand building, community interaction, and online networking. Recruiting hundreds of people for a surprise flash mob dance, Margy utilized Google tools like a form survey and Google group listserv. Later the dance became a internet hit on Youtube when the Fine Arts Fund posted it on their newly created Youtube Nonprofit Channel. Previously, she was the Executive Director of a start-up nonprofit think tank in Washington DC where she created a website and developed a following for the organizational blog. She received her BS in communication studies at Northwestern University and a law degree from The Ohio State University.

Andy Zellers

Andy currently speaks with many nonprofit organizations weekly to discuss their current fundraising efforts. He helps explore their web presence, ability to network online, personal fundraising tools, data management needs, and strategies to cultivate donors via newsletters and thank you letters. His sessions also include information about using current online tools such as Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter to help with social networking. Andy has volunteered for many non-profits while attending Xavier University. Fill-a-Truck, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Free Store Food Bank are a couple examples of non-profit organizations that Andy has assisted with his efforts.
