Janet has been in the development field for 25 years. In her current position, she manages a team of 3 professionals and up to 10 volunteers. With no volunteer coordinator on staff, her team responds to most volunteer requests, including many from the corporate world. Fundraising volunteer leaders at all levels are also a key part of her job as a development professional. As Executive Director for AIDS Walk Chicago, Janet managed a team of 10 organizers, 1500 volunteers who created an event for 20,000 walkers, including 1,000 corporate teams, raising $1.6 million. Janet currently serves as Facilitator, Board President and Head of Strategic Planning for the Open Studio Project in Evanston, a nonprofit that offers an art and writing process as a way to access one's creative problem solving abilities. She earned a BA in English from Florida State University and an MBA from Simmons Graduate School of Management, the only all woman business school. Janet has received the Golden Trumpet Award for marketing from the Publicity Club of Chicago, the Spirit of Rogers Park Award from the Rogers Park Community Council, and the Don Seiden Award for Lifetime Achievement from Evanston's Open Studio Project.
Wendy has been involved in volunteer management and program development for six years. In her current position, she heads up a team that is responsible for developing programs across Chicago that meet pressing needs in the areas of hunger, health and wellness, adult education and development, the environment, and senior services. Each program uses the time and talents of volunteers to meet a need at a partner organization or school. Wendy also manages the ongoing leadership program for Chicago Cares and developed updated training and retention programs. Previously, as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer services and wish granting coordinator at Fairygodmother Foundation, Wendy was responsible for managing, recruiting, and training volunteers for fundraising and outreach events, administrative support, and donation solicitation for wishes. Wendy also granted wishes by soliciting and receiving many in-kind donations of goods and services. Before that, she worked as an ongoing case manager for the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare where she was responsible for providing service referrals, ensuring safe placement, and assisting families with meeting court mandated requirements for their cases. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Marquette University. Additionally, Wendy has one year of experience as a community organizer in Milwaukee.
Chris, a former teacher and corporate manager, has worked with the Volunteer Center for the past ten years, serving as a traditional volunteer, Board President, trainer, and corporate program partner. She currently works as a nonprofit capacity building coach for the Retirement Research Foundation, Volunteer Management trainer and Associate Director for the The Volunteer Center of NW Suburban Chicago. Chris is directing the launch of a new skilled volunteer national grant program,"SAVE," which helps nonprofits leverage highly skilled volunteers within their infrastructure, increasing their capacity to serve and volunteer impact. Chris has a MS in Educational Psychology from University of Tennessee, BA from Washington State University. She is a 2009 graduate of the Advanced Volunteer Management Institute and an affiliate with HandsOn Network, Points of Light Institute, and the Volunteer Centers of Illinois. She is a Presidental Service Award recipient and RSVP volunteer.
Chris has been involved in volunteer development for 2 years. In his current position, he is responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with individual and group volunteers including schools, churches, volunteer organizations and corporations, scheduling and supervising volunteers, coordinating special events, and managing a community food pantry. During his time at CCIL, Chris helped create several vital volunteer partnerships with schools and corporations. Chris currently serves as a volunteer for Edgewater Tutoring where he works with youth in the Edgewater community of Chicago. He was chair of a five-year strategic planning committee at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and is serving as the churches' liaison to the Loyola Lutherans, a student group at Loyola University Chicago. He also serves as the group's community service coordinator. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Loyola University Chicago in 2008. While at Loyola, Chris was an Undergraduate Fellow at the Center for Urban Research and Learning where he worked on the project, "Homeless Over 50: The Graying of Chicago's Homeless Population."
The seminar will be taking place at the University Center Conference Center Chicago, which is located in the heart of Downtown Chicago, at State Street and Congress Parkway. Cabs are continually on call if you have to get back to the office quickly. Parking is nearby, abundant and inexpensive.

The Red Line stop is at the corner of Harrison and State which is across the street from the building. Driving Directions: From the Southwest (I-55 Stevenson Expressway) Proceed east to the end of I-55 to North Lake Shore Drive. Continue north (towards downtown) on Lake Shore Drive to Balbo Street. Turn left on Balbo to State Street; turn right on State Street. Continue one block. University Center will be on your right between Harrison Street and Congress Parkway.
From the South (I-57 to I-94 Dan Ryan Expressway) Exit at Congress Parkway. Drive east towards downtown to State Street. Turn right on State Street. University Center will be on your left between Congress Parkway and Harrison Street.
From the North (I-90/94 Kennedy/Edens Expressway) Exit at Congress Parkway. Drive east towards downtown to State Street. Turn right on State Street. University Center will be on your left between Congress Parkway and Harrison Street.
From the West (I-290 Eisenhower Expressway) I-290 turns into Congress Parkway at it nears downtown. Continue driving east to State Street. Turn right on State Street. University Center will be on your left between Congress Parkway and Harrison Street.
