OVERVIEW

A 1997 study of the characteristics of America`s best nonprofit organizations found that the best organizations had the following characteristics in common:

- A compelling and persuasive mission
- Inspirational leaders with a passion to improve society or alleviate a problem
- Innovative strategies for income generation
- A roadmap setting out the organization`s future direction
- An Active board of directors who understood their governance role

Our Nonprofit Leadership Series will examine the characteristics of a strong, well-functioning nonprofit organization over the course of six seminars that deal with board development, executive transition, public relations and other issues affecting the long term sustainability of your nonprofit.

WHY ATTEND THE NONPROFIT LEADERSHIP SERIES?
Research has shown that the most successful nonprofit leaders are constantly improving their skills and knowledge about the way that nonprofits run. Our Leadership Series offers you the opportunity to learn from industry experts as well as other nonprofit leaders.

CAN ONE ATTEND SPECIFIC SEMINARS ONLY?
We understand the demands that are placed on you and your time. That`s why you can attend only the seminars that are of interest to you. You pay for only the seminars you wish to attend and only for the information relevant to you. It’s a novel approach to learning that allows you to get exactly what you’re looking for in a short amount of time.

WHAT IS THE FORMAT OF THE SEMINARS?
Each seminar features 2-3 experts who will give a short overview of the key developments in that field. After that, we will move into an interactive session that explores key issues and their real-world implications. The session will end with a summary of practical next steps. Each session will be preceded by a wholesome breakfast, and punctuated by a tasty mid-morning break.

HOW IS THE LEADERSHIP SERIES DIFFERENT FROM OTHER EDUCATIONAL EVENTS?
The Leadership Series offers a unique format to help you accomplish the following:

Build relationships: to ensure maximum exposure to the experts and other nonprofit leaders, each seminar offers structured networking before the session starts
Hear different perspectives: the experts are drawn from different sectors of the nonprofit community to ensure cross-pollination of ideas and practices
Provide a global view: speakers give an overview of key issues so that you can eliminate any gaps in your understanding of the subject
Drill down to the specifics: speakers will also focus on providing specific answers to real-world questions that are common to most attendees
Obtain information you can use: the emphasis in all sessions is on avoiding theoretical discussions in favor of practical tools and techniques that nonprofit leaders can actually use

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LEADERSHIP SERIES?
The Leadership Seriers is organized by the Center for Nonprofit Success, a nonprofit organization that specializes in bringing highly relevant information that nonprofit leaders need to run their organizations successfully. We developed the Leadership Series as a follow-on to the Fundraising Summit, a highly successful educational series on fundraising and grantmaking that has been taking place around the country for the past two years.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR THE LEADERSHIP SERIES?
Simply click on the seminars listed below to learn more about the topics that will be covered in each seminar. Then select only those seminars that you wish to attend.

Location/Directions

The seminar will be taking place at the East Bank Club, which is just minutes away from the Loop and Merchandise Mart CTA station. Cabs are continually on call if you have to get back to the office quickly. Parking is nearby (see map), abundant and inexpensive (Parking with validation is $5.75 for the first four hours and $0.50 each additional hour).

Public Transportation:
The closest subway stop is the brown line Merchandise Mart stop, but if you use the red line the Grand Ave and State Street stop is closest. Chicago has bus service and the metra trains that bring you in from the suburbs.

Driving Directions:
From North Lake Shore Drive
Take Lake Shore Drive south to the Grand Ave. exit. Make a right hand turn on to Grand, travel west until you arrive at Kingsbury and make a left hand turn to the Club.

From South Lake Shore Drive
Take Lake Shore Drive north to the Grand Ave. exit. Make a left hand turn on to Grand, travel west on Grand to Kingsbury, then make a left hand turn to the Club.

From the Kennedy Expressway
Take the Kennedy towards downtown and exit at Ohio Street East. Once you exit the expressway, make a right hand turn on to Orleans Street. Go south on Orleans three blocks to Hubbard Street. Make a right hand turn on to Hubbard and go one block west.

From the Eisenhower Expressway
Take the Eisenhower east towards downtown. Exit at the Wisconsin exit, take the Wisconsin exit into the Kennedy going north. Exit at the Ohio Street East exit. Once you come off the expressway, make right hand turn on to Orleans Street, go three blocks south to Hubbard Street, make a right hand turn on to Hubbard and go one block west.
Parking:
There are two parking options for the East Bank Club. CFNPS attendees may use the EBC Parking at Hubbard and Kingsbury or the EBC Underground Garage. You may not use the valet lot unless you are a member.

1. EBC Parking at Hubbard and Kingsbury (Hubbard Street runs one way west, towards East Bank.) The lot is marked East Bank Parking. If you park in this outside lot, you will enter through the front entrance of East Bank off of Kinzie Street into the lobby. Once in the lobby you will find reception desks and an electronic sign-board to direct you to the Board Room.

2. EBC Underground Garage (500 North Kingsbury Street, Chicago, IL 60610)
The lot is marked East Bank Parking and is under the East Bank Club building. The parking garage entrance is between Hubbard and Kinzie on Kingsbury St. Guests parking underground will take a staircase (no elevator) to the lobby. Once in the lobby you will find reception desks and an electronic sign-board to direct you to the Board Room.

You will need to get your parking pass validated at the reception desk in the lobby. Once you park, bring your parking ticket to the receptionist in the lobby to get a validation sticker. You do NOT have to go back to your car to put the ticket in the windshield. Parking with validation is $5.75 for the first four hours and $0.50 each additional hour. If for some reason you loose your validation, just let the receptionist know and they will make sure you get a new validation sticker.

Cash and credit card are accepted by a machine for payment.
