One of the best ways to educate the public about your nonprofit, recruit volunteers and solicit donors face-to-face is to hold a special event. This event could be related to the mission of your organization, or just an event like a blood drive, art showing or a concert that you organize.
Topics we will cover include:
  •  Is a special event right for your organization? A look at the pros and cons of planning award receptions, sports tournaments, auctions, and other fund-raising events
  •  How much money should your event make? Revenue considerations for a nonprofit event
  •  Should you underwrite the event? Understanding the strings attached to corporate sponsorship
  •  How should you market your event? Segmenting and positioning yourself for your target market
Attendees will walk out with key insights on whether a special event is feasible, and how to make it a roaring success.  This session is intended for intermediate to advanced fundraisers.

Cindy Rowe
Principal
Rowe Resources

Cindy Rowe, Principal of Rowe Resources, has worked for over twenty years with more than fifty non-profit organizations, government agencies, and political campaigns, helping them maximize their resources in the areas of fundraising, special event and conference planning, board management, and legislative advocacy. She has particular expertise in working with small to mid-size non-profits, guiding their board and staff members in developing successful fundraising events, and conducts workshops on this topic quite frequently. Prior to launching her own consulting practice, she managed a statewide political campaign and worked for both the Administration and Legislature in the areas of public policy and community affairs. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard College, and her J.D. from Boston College Law School. She is a member of the Massachusetts Bar, as well as several non-profit and community boards.

In her current position, Elizabeth has engaged in varying fundraising activies over the years, including special event fundraising. In particular, she has been part of organizing and executing the organization`s annual golf tournament (last 12 years), online auction (last 3 years) and car raffle (new this year). Elizabeth received her Bachelors and Juris Doctorate degrees from the Catholic University of America in Washington DC. She is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, MetroWest Bar Association and Bar Association of Norfolk County. She also serves as the chair of the board of the Wayland Council on Aging and the president of the Weston Friendly Society of the Performing Arts.

Annette has over 10 years of experience with volunteer organization leadership which has included the facilitation of special event organization, creation and funding. In her current position, she assists the Regional Directors in the regional conferences and special events throughout the United States. Annette has worked with the Financial Women`s Association (FWA) Annual Dinner committee which was a great success to the organization. She also serves as a Co-Chair for the FWA Emerging Leaders Committee where she arranges special events for members. Annette is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law earning her Juris Doctor. She spent several years working in the financial industry in Chicago and now works in New York City.
