At the best of times, fundraising can be challenging. However, fundraising in the one person development shop can be daunting, especially when one is working with a shoestring budget. The key in situations like these is to know what areas to prioritize, and how to get the biggest bang for your buck because you can't do it all.  This seminar will focus on the issues unique to one person fundraising departments, and will drill down in the following areas:
  • Keeping your organization on track financially: create and maintain a year-round fundraising plan
  • Research: research your prospects on a shoestring budget
  • Direct mail: work with an established third party service provider to maximize your returns
  • Major gifts program: develop and maintain a manageable high dollar giving club
  • Planned giving: start simple with a wills and bequests program
  • Donor solicitation: make it easy for your donors to give and for you to receive donations
  • Special events: conduct a unique annual event that makes efficient use of volunteers
  • Leadership involvement: find creative ways to get your executive director and/or board involved in the fundraising process

Jeanette Davis-Loeb
Founder & CEO
Rising Oak Foundation

In her current position, Jeanette works as a one-woman-development shop where she does it all: branding, marketing, product development, grant-writing, donor cultivation and volunteer coordination. In addition, Jeanette consults to underdeveloped non-profits helping them achieve measurable levels of self-sustainability, by creating compelling and innovative income streams. At present she is Treasurer and Resource Development Chair of Women In Fatherhood, Inc., and Outgoing Chair of the Pacific Northwest Advisory Board of the United Negro College Fund. Jeanette earned her B.A. degree from The Evergreen State College, and has completed course work towards her M.A. in Not-for-Profit Leadership from Seattle University.

Anuradha Desai
Executive Director
International Center for Conciliation

In her current position, Anuradha is responsible for building the financial, organizational and administrative base of the organization in a one person development shop that raises $500,000 annually. Anuradha’s past experiences include working for eight years as the Executive Director of Organizational Development at Citizen Schools. This involved taking a one person development operation to a team of eight, and building the base from $750,000 to $13 million. She launched the Feinstein International Famine Center at Tufts University, and built and managed a $2 million Major Gifts Unit at Oxfam America as its first director for 10 years. She has served on various boards of regional and international organizations. Anuradha has Masters Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and in Urban Studies and Architecture from the Royal Academy of Denmark.

Ned Hogan
Director of Advancement
Cathedral High School

Ned Hogan is Director of Advancement at Cathedral High School. He is responsible for all aspects of Cathedral High School`s efforts to raise philanthropic funds to support the operating needs, tuition assistance needs and capital needs of the school. He has eleven years experience as the lone professional fundraiser in community based nonprofits. He was President of AFP Connecticut Chapter. He has spoken at the Boston Fundraising Summit in 2007 and 2008 and is an instructor in the AFP Essentials in Fundraising and the CFRE Review Course. He has raised more than $20,000,000 for the missions of small and mid-sized nonprofit organizations, all in a one-person shop. His expertise is taking a small program and making it significantly larger on the same budget. Mr. Hogan holds the CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) certification.
