Engaging your board in fundraising

Your board can be among your most powerful fundraising assets. That is, if you use it correctly. Too often, the board is not involved in fundraising or views fundraising as a daunting task. The result is that many board members neglect their responsibilities, which are then left to staff members who have too many other responsibilities already. To address this problem, your board members need to be reminded of the importance of their fundraising responsibilities, and learn concrete tools and techniques that make fundraising a rewarding task.

Topics we will cover include:
  • Why board members fear fundraising, and what you can do about it
  • What board members need to know to start fundraising
  • Steps for energizing your board even when you are not on the board
  • How to deal with board members who won't fundraise even when they know they should
  • Building and maintaining the fundraising partnership between the board and  development staff
Attendees will walk away with fresh ideas to energize theirs board members about fundraising. The session is designed for beginning to intermediate fundraisers.
Speakers for this session:

Tina Cincotti
Trainer & Consultant
Funding Change

With 12 years experience in fund development, Tina specializes in working with nonprofits who want their boards to be more involved in fundraising. Before launching her consulting practice Funding Change, she served as the Development Director for Neighbor to Neighbor Massachusetts and as the Communications & Development Director for the National Network of Abortion Funds. In these positions, she played a key role expanding the fundraising responsibilities of the board. Through Tina`s training and consulting, she works with boards to demystify what fundraising really is and involve them in the whole fundraising process, not just the asking. Using this approach, organizations can improve donor retention, attract new supporters, and cultivate stronger relationships with stakeholders. Tina is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Women In Development, and the Nonprofit Consultants Network. She received her bachelor`s degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
