Finding Corporate Funders: the art of successful research
 

Corporate foundations must file 990-PFs where they record their grants. But if a corporation makes its charitable contributions directly from the company itself, a listing of its grants may not be so easy to find. This session will help you identify the most important sources of corporate funding. In particular, you will learn how to use the online resources to identify possible sources of corporate funding. In particular, this session will examine how you can use:
  • The websites of the corporations themselves to uncover details of of their corporate contributions and community relations activities
  • Online grants databases such as the Foundation Center's Corporate Giving Online and NOZA, as well as other online directories
  • Creative searches on Google to identify undiscovered sources of corporate funding 
This session is ideal for beginning grant seekers who are getting their feet wet, and need step by step guidance on how to find appropriate funding from corporations.
Speakers for this session:

Pat Bregant
Director of Development
Women`s Cancer Resource Center

Pat has been a Development Director for 12 years. In her current position, she is responsible for all fundraising and development activities. This included developing and implementing all fundraising campaigns and special events, researching and developing relationships with potential and current donors (individuals/businesses/foundations), partnering with community organizations around potential revenue streams and events, and working with public officials to engage support and establish relationships with businesses and potential supporters. As the Director of Development at the San Francisco Organizing Project, she worked closely with the executive director to create a development plan, researched potential corporate funders, implemented grass roots fundraising campaigns, and trained affiliate organizations throughout the country in development best practices. She used community organizing techniques to engage and find funders, worked closely with public officials to successfully cultivate new donors from the corporate community, and built a successful annual fundraising event that consistently grew in revenue and size. Pat also worked as the Director of Development at San Francisco School Volunteers. She currently serves on the board of Loco Bloco and volunteers at two schools in the SFUSD. She earned Bachelors in Music and Music Therapy from University of Wisconsin.

Y`Anad Burrell
Development Director
City Lights Theater Company

Y`Anad has been involved in development for seven years. In her current position as Development Director at City Lights Theater Company her duties include, but are not limited to, researching and writing corporate and foundation grants, creating a strategic communications plan, donor cultivation and stewardship, creating and implementing an integrated multi-stream long-term fundraising stream, implementing an annual giving campaign and working with our marketing department on ensuring our messaging is the same voice. Previously, as Development Director at Child Care Coordinating Council, Y`Anad was responsible for researching and finding corporate funders, as well as many of the same developmental duties at City Lights Theater Company . Y`Anad currently serves as Volunteer for Junior League of San Francisco, Volunteer Board Member - American Association of Grant Professionals and Volunteer Board Member - Child, Family and Community Services. She earned Masters in Public Administration and a Masters in Healthcare Management, both from Golden Gate University. She is a member of Association of Fundraising Professionals and American Assoc. of Grant Professionals.

Damon Krytzer
SVP
Oppenheimer & Company

Damon has been involved in capital raising for 17 years in both commercial and not-for-profit initiatives. In his current position, he is responsible for portfolio management, and has responsibility for developing and implementing funding plans. Much of his work is in targeting and speaking with corporate boards and foundations. Previously, as Portfolio Manager at Symbiotics SA, Damon was responsible for developing currency risk strategy and leading communications for potential investors. This fund was successful in raising a committed $200M in capital for a sub-Saharan African microfinance portfolio. Prior to this role, he worked as Vice President at UBS Financial Services where he was responsible for targeted capital raising among corporate clients and pension funds. Damon currently serves as a board member for the Maybach Foundation, where he develops funding resources on a project-specific basis, and with Mesoloan Financial. Damon is a CFA Charterholder, he has earned MBA degrees from Columbia Business School and from the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, and is active as a member of the CFA Institute and the Financial Analysts Society of San Francisco.
